In a recent interview, former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, shed light on the challenges CD Projekt Red faced in integrating a grand narrative into an open-world game. The team initially harbored doubts about the feasibility of merging expansive storytelling with the freedom of an open-world environment.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz

Despite these initial reservations, CDPR took the bold step forward, ultimately creating one of the most acclaimed RPGs of all time, The Witcher 3. Today, Tomaszkiewicz spearheads the team at Rebel Wolves, working on their latest project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. This upcoming game is set in an alternative medieval Eastern Europe with dark fantasy elements, focusing on a narrative centered around vampires.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. While an official release date remains undisclosed, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer.
