Bloodborne PC Emulation Achieves Near 60 FPS Stability
Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan recently evaluated the performance of Bloodborne on the ShadPS4 emulator, specifically using the 0.5.1 build by diegolix29, which is based on a custom branch from developer raphaelthegreat. For his tests, Morgan utilized a PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor and a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, highlighting this build's superior performance among several tested.
To enhance the gameplay experience, Morgan recommended the installation of the Vertex Explosion Fix mod, which addresses visual artifacts such as stretched or mispositioned polygons. Although this mod disables character face customization at the start, it effectively resolves these visual issues. Importantly, no other essential mods are needed as the emulator itself comes with built-in enhancements. Users can access a special menu to activate features like 60 fps support, resolutions up to 4K, and the option to disable chromatic aberration.
During his tests, Morgan observed that Bloodborne generally maintained a 60 fps frame rate, although occasional stutters were noted. He experimented with higher resolutions, including 1440p and 1800p, which, while improving image quality, led to performance drops and frequent crashes. Consequently, Morgan suggests running Bloodborne on ShadPS4 at either 1080p, mirroring the PS4's native resolution, or at 1152p for the best balance of performance and visual quality.
Morgan praised the ShadPS4 team for their groundbreaking work in PS4 emulation, noting that while Bloodborne runs impressively on the emulator, some technical challenges remain. This achievement underscores the potential for further improvements in console emulation technology.
