Naughty Dog's Next Game Rumored to Echo FromSoftware Style
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to grant players a level of freedom that marks a significant departure from the studio's previous works. Inspired by the likes of Elden Ring, the developers aim to incorporate similar open-world exploration mechanics. Journalist Ben Hanson has shared that the game will be set on a single expansive planet, where players will delve into the mysteries of a long-lost civilization and explore the intricacies of a new religion, which will be central to the narrative. While it's not yet clear how closely the game will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the studio is moving away from the linear gameplay structures of their past projects.
The Heretic Prophet will be the studio's inaugural project where players navigate the game world solo, without the support of companions or allies. Neil Druckmann emphasizes that the game aims to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe while exploring deep themes of faith and religion. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is here that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives, driven by her contract.
Druckmann further reveals that the development of the game drew inspiration from titles like Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This suggests a move away from conventional guidance systems towards a narrative style that encourages players to piece together the story themselves from scattered fragments.
The game was unveiled at TGA 2024, but a release date has yet to be announced.
