Edwards' Twitter (X) post showcased never-before-seen images, including the title card ("The Invincible Iron Man"), the Genepool Software logo, and gameplay screenshots. He followed up with Xbox gameplay footage, displaying the startup screen and a tutorial segment set in a desert environment. This project followed the studio's release of X-Men 2: Wolverine's Revenge.
Activision's Cancellation Decision
Despite positive fan reaction, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team jobless. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several possibilities: delays in the film adaptation, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or another developer potentially securing the rights.
The game's unique Iron Man design, predating Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal by almost five years, also sparked discussion. The suit closely resembled the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book design of the early 2000s. Edwards stated the design choice was the artist's decision.
Edwards promised more gameplay footage, but at the time of writing, this has yet to materialize. The revelation provides a fascinating glimpse into a lost piece of gaming history and the often-uncertain fate of video game projects.
