"Oblivion Remastered Ranks 3rd in U.S. Sales for 2025"

Author : Logan Update : May 13,2025

As if the staggering concurrent player numbers on Steam and Bethesda's announcement of 4 million players weren't enough to affirm its status as a blockbuster, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has now become the third best-selling game of 2025 in the U.S. within just one week of its release.

Launched unexpectedly on April 22, Oblivion Remastered achieved a peak concurrent player count of 216,784 on Steam. However, this impressive figure only represents a fraction of its total success, as the game also debuted on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and was immediately available on Game Pass.

In a remarkable feat, Oblivion Remastered secured its position as the third best-selling game in the U.S. for 2025 by dollar sales, trailing only behind Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, according to Circana's Mat Piscatella. It's important to note that Circana's sales data does not account for players using subscription services, highlighting the game's robust sales performance despite its availability on Microsoft's Game Pass.

Given this overwhelming success, it's highly likely that Bethesda will continue with more remasters, with speculation pointing towards either Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas as potential candidates. Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, has expressed that a remastered version of the game would likely see significant improvements in gun combat, aligning it more closely with the advancements seen in Fallout 4. In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith noted that the gunplay in Fallout 3 was "not good" and anticipated that Bethesda would enhance this aspect to match the standards set by Fallout 4.

It supports 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, but the upgrades go far beyond mere graphical improvements. From revamped leveling systems and character creation to enhanced combat animations and in-game menus, the game has undergone a comprehensive overhaul. Additional new dialogue, a refined third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology further enrich the experience. These changes have been well-received by fans, some of whom argue that Oblivion Remastered is more akin to a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified their choice to categorize it as a remaster.

Nesmith suggested that a Fallout 3 Remastered would likely follow a similar path of extensive updates, particularly in the realm of combat mechanics. He acknowledged that the original Fallout 3's combat did not meet the standards of contemporary shooters at the time and expected significant enhancements akin to those implemented in Fallout 4.

"Oblivion wasn’t just updated to the 2011 version of Skyrim," Nesmith remarked. "It was brought up to something that, at least on the surface, looks like it exceeds the most recent graphics update in Skyrim." He further praised The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, suggesting it could be aptly dubbed "Oblivion 2.0."

Bethesda's current slate is packed, with ongoing development of The Elder Scrolls VI and potential expansions for Starfield, alongside continued work on Fallout 76 and the Fallout TV series, which is set to explore New Vegas in its second season. Fans can look forward to a rich array of content in the coming years.
