Respawn Cancels Unannounced Multiplayer Shooter Set in the Titanfall Universe
A former employee of Respawn Entertainment recently shared on LinkedIn that the studio has halted the development of a new game this week. The project, which had been in the works for several years, was abruptly stopped without any clear explanation provided to the public or the team involved.
Last year, gaming journalist Jeff Grubb reported that this project was not a mainline entry in the Titanfall series, explicitly ruling out the possibility of it being Titanfall 3. To spearhead this endeavor, Respawn assembled a dedicated "experimental team" composed of experts in multiplayer shooter development, aiming to push the boundaries of what such games could offer.
This isn't the first time Respawn has had to cancel a project. Last year, they also discontinued an arcade shooter codenamed Titanfall Legends, marking another setback for the studio's creative ventures.
The Titanfall franchise, renowned for its innovative mix of fast-paced action and mech piloting, allows players to engage in combat either as agile pilots or in control of formidable Titans. Since its debut in 2014, the series has carved a niche for itself with its unique gameplay mechanics, including parkour and intense team-based battles, which have won over a dedicated fanbase.
Currently, Respawn Entertainment is channeling its efforts into other high-profile projects. The studio is actively developing the third installment of the Star Wars Jedi series, promising more adventures in the beloved universe. Additionally, they are collaborating with Bit Reactor on a new strategy game set within the Star Wars universe, indicating a shift in focus towards expanding their presence in the Star Wars franchise.
