inZOI Teases Plans for Karma System and Ghost Zois
inZOI's Director Unveils Plans for Karma System and Ghostly Encounters
inZOI game director Hyungjun Kim recently revealed intriguing details about an upcoming Karma system that introduces a paranormal element to the game's realistic setting. This system will determine the fate of deceased Zois, transforming them into ghosts based on their accumulated Karma points.
According to Kim's February 7, 2025 Discord post, Zois with sufficient Karma points will transition to the afterlife, while those with insufficient points remain as ghosts until they accrue enough points to move on. The specific actions required to increase Karma points remain undisclosed for now.
Kim emphasized a balanced approach to ghost interactions, stating that they will be "fairly limited" to avoid overshadowing core gameplay, but still engaging when encountered. In the Early Access version, players will interact with ghost Zois through special conversations under specific circumstances and at designated times.
Kim also expressed interest in expanding the game's scope beyond its realistic core, stating, "While we’re committed to refining the realistic elements of inZOI first, I’d love to explore more fantasy-driven elements in the future."
A glimpse into the Karma system was offered in August 2024 through a sponsored video by content creator MadMorph. The video showcased "Karma Interactions," an in-game mechanic allowing Zois to perform actions that influence their Karma score, both positively and negatively. Examples shown included a less-than-savory act (secretly farting on another Zoi's face) and the option to perform good deeds like "Throw Away Trash" or "Like a Friend’s post."
While the Early Access release (March 28, 2025 on Steam) will focus on the living Zois, the Karma system's full impact will be realized in future updates.
