Freedom Wars Remastered Shows Off Gameplay Systems

Freedom Wars Remastered: Enhanced Gameplay and New Features Revealed

A new trailer for Freedom Wars Remastered showcases the game's revamped gameplay and control systems, along with significant enhancements. This action RPG, set in a dystopian world, challenges players to battle mechanical creatures, upgrade their equipment, and complete a variety of missions.

The remastered version boasts upgraded visuals, improved game balance, a challenging new difficulty setting, and numerous other feature updates. Freedom Wars Remastered launches January 10th on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.

Originally developed as a response to Capcom's decision to move the Monster Hunter franchise to Nintendo consoles, Freedom Wars (for PS Vita) offered a similar gameplay loop: players fight colossal mechanical enemies called Abductors, collect their parts, and upgrade their gear to improve combat effectiveness. This core gameplay remains, but with significant improvements.

Bandai Namco's new trailer highlights these improvements. The story follows a "Sinner," convicted simply for being born, in a world depleted of resources. The Sinner's sentence involves completing missions for their Panopticon (city-state), ranging from citizen rescues and Abductor destruction to capturing control systems. These missions can be tackled solo or with online co-op partners.

Freedom Wars Remastered: Gameplay System Enhancements

The trailer details the enhancements in Freedom Wars Remastered. Visuals receive a major boost, jumping from 544p to 4K (2160p) resolution on PS5 and PC, maintaining a smooth 60 FPS. PS4 users will experience 1080p at 60 FPS, while the Switch version runs at 1080p, 30 FPS. Gameplay is faster-paced than the original, thanks to improved design and mechanics like increased movement speed and attack cancellation.

Crafting and upgrading have been streamlined with more intuitive interfaces and freely attachable/detachable modules. A new module synthesis feature lets players enhance modules using resources gained from rescued citizens. Finally, a "Deadly Sinner" difficulty mode targets experienced players, and all original customization DLC from the PS Vita version is included.
