Life by You Fans Get Reminded of Its Cancellation Once Again
Improvements Done on Visuals and Character Models Commended by Fans
The screenshots, which have been making rounds on the internet, were originally posted by former artists and developers of the project, compiled by Twitter user @SimMattically. Key contributors such as Richard Kho, Eric Maki, and Chris Lewis have shared their portfolios, with Lewis providing insights into the game's animation, scripting, lighting, modder tools, shaders, and visual effects on his GitHub page.
The shared images provide a closer look at what Life by You could have offered its players. Fans have noted that while the visuals remain consistent with the latest gameplay trailers, there are several commendable improvements. One enthusiastic fan expressed their disappointment over the cancellation, stating, "We were all super excited and impatient; and then we all ended up extremely disappointed… :( Could have been a great game!"
The screenshots reveal outfits in the base game that are thoughtfully coordinated to suit different weather cycles and seasons, suggesting a dynamic world that could have been part of Life by You. The character customization appears to be extensive, featuring improved sliders and presets, while the in-game world looks more detailed and atmospheric than in earlier presentations.
In the wake of the game's cancellation, Paradox Interactive's Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja explained that the decision to delay the early access release stemmed from the game's shortcomings in critical areas. Lilja stated, "It became clear to us that the road leading to a release that we felt confident about was far too long and uncertain."
CEO Fredrik Wester further elaborated on the situation, acknowledging the strengths and the dedicated efforts of the team behind Life by You. He added, "However, when we come to a point where we believe that more time will not get us close enough to a version we would be satisfied with, then we believe it is better to stop."
The unexpected cancellation of Life by You left many fans disheartened, especially considering the game's potential to challenge EA's iconic "The Sims" series. Intended for release on PC, the project's development was abruptly terminated, leading to the closure of Paradox Tectonic, the studio tasked with bringing Life by You to life.
