Assassin’s Creed Shadows (AC Shadows) delivers a 30-40 hour main campaign for players to immerse themselves in. At the AC Shadows Showcase Event in Kyoto, Genki Gamer interviewed Creative Director Johnathan Dumont about the game’s scope.

Dumont revealed that completing the main story will take approximately 30-40 hours, with over 80 hours of additional side content. The team is also exploring a New Game+ mode and other features based on player input, addressing fan disappointment over its absence in AC Valhalla.

Dumont highlighted the game’s dynamic world, featuring seasonal changes, weather systems, new gameplay mechanics, and a highly customizable Hideout. The narrative ties into the Animus storyline, connecting to future Assassin’s Creed projects.

Dumont shared that creating a Japan-centered game was a long-held dream for the team. Advances in technology enabled them to bring Japan’s natural world to life, paired with a gripping story.

Inspired by Japanese cinema like 13 Assassins, Sekigahara, Zatoichi, and Kurosawa’s works, the team infused their unique Assassin’s Creed perspective. Addressing online debates, particularly about Yasuke’s role as a black samurai, Dumont emphasized their commitment to constructive feedback while prioritizing an exceptional gaming experience for Japanese fans.

On March 5, 2025, AC Shadows’ official website detailed the Hideout, located in the secluded Izumi Settsu valley, serving as the player’s base for building the Brotherhood.

Systems Associate Director Dany described the Hideout as an ambitious step forward, saying, “After fortresses, villas, and ships, we wanted to give players complete freedom to design their base.” Players can customize an acre of land with buildings, pavilions, pathways, and local flora, unlocking new options as they progress.

Building a Dynamic Brotherhood

The Hideout hosts various characters, each with unique backstories and challenges, who occupy areas like the Dojo or Zashiki based on their preferences. This setup fosters dynamic interactions and new dialogue, making the Hideout a vibrant hub.

Dany noted, “Bringing allies together sparks character development.” Writers from four global studios collaborated to craft interactions, imagining scenarios like characters becoming roommates, adding depth to the Hideout’s role as the Brotherhood’s heart.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows promises an authentic Japanese adventure with a signature Assassin’s Creed twist, set for release on March 20, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay updated with our latest article below!
