The chilling ghost-hunting game Phasmophobia from Kinetic Games is heading to Hollywood.

Horror experts Blumhouse—known for hits like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring, and M3gan—have teamed up with the UK-based developer for a film adaptation. While details remain scarce, the project's writer, director, and cast are still under wraps.

"This is a huge milestone for the entire Kinetic team and the beginning of an exciting journey," said Daniel "Dknighter" Knight, director of Kinetic Games. "When we launched Phasmophobia five years ago, we never imagined it would reach such incredible heights. We're deeply grateful to our amazing community for the lasting impact this game has made in gaming and beyond.

"Partnering with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster opens a thrilling new chapter for Phasmophobia, and we can’t wait to reveal more as development progresses."

Phasmophobia is a four-player online co-op psychological horror game where you and your team investigate haunted locations, gathering paranormal evidence. Since its 2020 early access debut, which pioneered the ghost-hunting genre, it has sold over 23 million copies, thanks to its unique mix of cooperative horror and investigative gameplay. Later this month, the Chronicle update will revamp evidence gathering, the journal, and progression systems.

Phasmophobia even earned a spot on IGN's list of the 25 greatest horror games ever made—do you agree with its ranking?

Blumhouse's last major horror game adaptation received mixed reviews; we scored Five Nights at Freddy's 4/10, calling it "overly plot-heavy and lacking the game's signature security-cam tension." A sequel is slated for December 2025.
