Suicide Squad's failure is still affecting Rocksteady. Another wave of layoffs at the studio
Rocksteady Studios, the creator of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, announced further layoffs in late 2024, impacting programmers, artists, and testers. This follows September's layoffs, which halved the testing team's size.
These job cuts are a direct consequence of the game's poor reception and significant financial losses – estimated at $200 million by Warner Bros. The studio confirmed in December that no 2025 updates are planned, though servers will remain active.
The impact wasn't limited to Rocksteady; Games Montreal, another Warner Bros. studio, also experienced layoffs, losing 99 employees in December.
The game's early access launch exacerbated the situation. Players encountered numerous bugs, including server outages and a major story spoiler. Negative reviews from prominent gaming publications compounded the problem, leading to a massive 791% surge in refund requests, according to McLuck analytics.
Rocksteady's future projects remain unannounced.
