Ratchet and Clank 2nd Movie Considered by Insomniac Games
Insomniac Games Eyes More Game-to-Screen Adaptations Following CEO's Retirement
Insomniac Games, renowned for its Ratchet & Clank franchise, has signaled its strong interest in further game-to-screen adaptations. This news emerged from a Variety interview with co-Studio Head Ryan Schneider, following the announcement of founder and CEO Ted Price's retirement.
Schneider highlighted the studio's prior experience with the 2016 Ratchet & Clank film, stating, "We kind of got an early start on that. So, of course, we’re interested in that kind of thing. We love Ratchet and Clank in particular." While the 2016 film received mixed reviews, Insomniac's confidence in future adaptations is bolstered by Sony's recent successes in the gaming-to-film and TV space, notably the critically acclaimed The Last of Us series.
Sony's Expanding Game Adaptations Portfolio
Insomniac's enthusiasm aligns perfectly with Sony's proven track record of successful game adaptations. Recent examples include the 2022 Uncharted film and the aforementioned The Last of Us series. Further bolstering this commitment, Sony's CES 2025 press conference unveiled several upcoming projects:
- The Last of Us Season 2 (HBO, April 2025)
- Until Dawn live-action film (April 2025)
- Ghost of Tsushima Legends anime series (Crunchyroll, 2027)
- Helldivers feature film (release date unannounced)
- Horizon Zero Dawn live-action film (release date unannounced)
Ted Price's Retirement and Insomniac's Future Leadership
After three decades at the helm, Insomniac Games founder and CEO Ted Price announced his retirement. Price, instrumental in building the studio behind iconic franchises like Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, and Marvel's Spider-Man, explained his decision as a natural progression after 30 years of leadership. The reins are now passed to three long-time Insomniac veterans: Ryan Schneider, Chad Dezern, and Jen Huang, who will serve as co-Studio Heads. Price expressed confidence in their ability to continue the studio's success, emphasizing their deep understanding of Insomniac's culture and processes.
