Legendary Pictures' upcoming live-action Street Fighter film has cast rising star Callina Liang as legendary fighter Chun-Li, according to new reports.

Deadline confirms the actress has officially signed on for the pivotal female lead role. This casting marks another major step forward for the project as it races toward its scheduled March 20, 2026 debut.

Liang kicked off her acting journey in the 2022 series Tell Me Everything before landing roles in Foundation (2023) and two critically-acclaimed 2024 films - Steven Soderbergh's Presence and J.C. Lee's Bad Genius.

The Street Fighter adaptation will serve as Liang's breakthrough into mainstream cinema when she embodies Chun-Li's signature fighting spirit for worldwide audiences. She'll share the screen with previously announced co-stars including Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck. Details regarding other iconic fighters' portrayals remain under wraps.

Following Capcom and Legendary's announcement of the live-action adaptation in April 2023, initial directing duties fell to Talk to Me filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou. Though promising, this creative partnership dissolved a year later when the brothers stepped away citing scheduling conflicts per The Hollywood Reporter.

The production faced this setback head-on, confirming a spring 2026 release window this past June while securing experienced comedy director Kitao Sakurai (The Eric Andre Show, Twisted Metal) to helm the project. Development continues full-speed as more actors board the martial arts epic.

More details about Liang's portrayal of Chun-Li and the film's narrative direction will emerge as we approach premiere day. In related Street Fighter news, Capcom recently celebrated Street Fighter 6 surpassing 5 million copies sold worldwide earlier this month.
