Ubisoft Restarts Project Maverick Development: Rumors
The extraction shooter set in the Far Cry universe, which was set to take place in Alaska, has undergone a complete reboot, according to a report by Insider Gaming. Initially known as Project Maverick, the game was originally planned as a multiplayer expansion for Far Cry 7. However, after an internal review, the project saw significant changes. Despite receiving positive feedback from employees and testers, Ubisoft's management decided to shift most of the resources to Project Blackbird, which is Far Cry 7. The final blow to the multiplayer component came when the technical team was reassigned to other projects.
The responsibility for the rebooted project has now been handed over to Ubisoft Sherbrooke, a studio known for its development support capabilities. Nearly the entire original development team has been redirected to focus on the next installment of the Far Cry series.

According to insider Tom Henderson (as of mid-December 2024), Far Cry 7 is set to immerse players in an atmosphere filled with tension and desperation, where time becomes the primary adversary. The game's storyline will revolve around the protagonist's family being kidnapped by a mysterious conspiracy cult that conducts horrifying experiments using hallucinogens on animals and children. Players will be tasked with rescuing their loved ones within a strict in-game time limit of 72 hours, which translates to 24 real-time hours. This time constraint will make time a crucial element of gameplay, enhancing the intensity and urgency of the experience.
A unique feature of Far Cry 7 will be a timer displayed on the protagonist's wristwatch, serving as a constant reminder of the ticking clock. This element will not only increase the sense of urgency but also add pressure, compelling players to make quick and strategic decisions. Far Cry 7 aims to deliver a unique gaming experience where every second counts, and every choice can lead to significant consequences.
