Star Wars' Darth Jar Jar Now Available in Fortnite, but Fans Can't Believe You Must Earn 1 million XP Before You Can Buy Him
Fortnite’s latest Star Wars season has introduced one of its most talked-about cosmetic additions yet — the infamous Darth Jar Jar skin. However, unlike typical in-game purchases, this skin comes with a steep requirement: players must first earn 1.28 million XP before even being allowed to spend their hard-earned V-Bucks on it.
Darth Jar Jar officially became available in Fortnite’s Shop over the weekend, but only for those who had completed the prerequisite XP grind. And even then, the skin isn’t free — it still costs 1500 V-Bucks (roughly $13). This approach has surprised many fans, especially considering how rare it is for Epic Games to lock a skin behind such a high XP barrier, particularly during what is shaping up to be a condensed Star Wars-themed season.
With the season set to conclude on June 7, players now have limited time to accumulate the required experience points. Those who already completed their Battle Pass are facing an entirely new wave of level grinding just to unlock the privilege of purchasing the skin.
Frustration has been mounting on community forums like Reddit, where players have voiced their dissatisfaction. “I was so hyped for this skin and was fine with it being behind a pay wall, after all it is just another skin,” shared one disappointed player. “But this whole locked behind an XP wall is ridiculous. You want me to earn the right to give you money? I immediately closed the game.”
Adding fuel to the fire, the standard Jar Jar Binks skin launched alongside Darth Jar Jar — without any XP restrictions, but still priced at 1500 V-Bucks. When factoring in additional accessories for both Sith and Gungan versions, players could end up spending up to 6,500 V-Bucks — approximately $52 — for the full Jar Jar Binks collection.
“Regular Jar Jar alone is 20 dollars,” another fan commented. “If you want both that s\*\*t is 52 entire ass dollars for something that ought to have just been 1 skin with 3 styles.”

On the flip side, some players have defended the XP requirement. “It wasn't that hard to earn the XP — took me around 8 or 9 hours,” said one player. “I did it in three sessions, all in one day. I played Rocket Racing, Ranked matches, and Alignment Challenges to farm as much XP as possible.”
Others have pointed out that cosmetics remain optional. After all, if you don’t like the skin or the cost, you can always skip it. Much like George Lucas’ own regrets following *The Phantom Menace*, avoiding Jar Jar in your locker is totally within your control.
This week, Fortnite’s Star Wars season continues with a spotlight on Mandalorian warriors, culminating in the upcoming release of a customizable Mandalorian skin in the Shop. The season will wrap up with a live narrative event on June 7, which many believe will involve a dramatic boarding of the Death Star — a structure that’s loomed over the map since the start of the event.
Meanwhile, tensions between Epic Games and Apple continue to escalate, with Fortnite once again blocked from returning to the iOS App Store in the United States earlier this month.
