Spectre Divide Cuts Skin Prices Following Player Backlash

30% In-Game Currency Refunds for Eligible Players

Mountaintop Studios has revised its digital store pricing in response to community criticism about expensive cosmetic bundles. The developer confirmed price reductions between 17-25% for weapon and character skins, with specific adjustments varying by item. Game director Lee Horn announced these changes hours after launch when player dissatisfaction became evident.

"We've listened to your concerns and are implementing immediate changes," the studio stated. "Weapon and outfit prices will be permanently reduced by 17-25%. Anyone who bought items before this adjustment will receive a 30% SP refund." This decision came after players expressed frustration with the initial pricing structure. For example, the popular Cryo Kinesis bundle originally priced at approximately $85 (9,000 SP) was widely criticized as unreasonable for a free-to-play game.

The studio specified that players who purchased items before the price drop will receive 30% of their spent SP refunded, rounded up to the nearest 100 SP. However, pricing remains unchanged for Starter packs, Sponsors, and Endorsement upgrades. "These packages won't be adjusted. Players who bought Founder's or Supporter packs along with these items will receive additional SP compensation," clarified the announcement.

Community reaction remains divided despite these changes, mirroring the game's current 49% negative rating on Steam. The initial pricing controversy triggered review bombing on the platform, resulting in "Mixed" overall reviews. One Twitter user commented, "This doesn't fully address the issue but it's a step in the right direction. We appreciate the team listening to feedback." Another player requested more flexibility: "I'd spend more if we could purchase individual bundle components like hairstyles or accessories separately."

Some players expressed continued skepticism about the developer's approach. One critic noted, "This should have been addressed before launch, not as a reaction to outrage. If this pattern continues, the game might struggle against upcoming free-to-play competition."
