Sonic Rumble Pre-Release Event Showcases Monkey Ball, Altered Beast
Sonic Rumble is gearing up for its global release on May 8th, but fans won’t have to wait long to experience its first exciting crossover event. In a nostalgic celebration of Sega’s iconic gaming legacy, the game is bringing in characters from beloved classics like *Altered Beast*, *Fantasy Zone*, and *Super Monkey Ball*. Some of these characters will be available for free, while others can be unlocked through in-game purchases.
Interestingly, this pre-release event kicks off before the game officially launches worldwide. It's likely accessible to players in select regions where Sonic Rumble is currently in soft launch. From now until May 7th, players can claim the Werewolf character—based on the legendary *Altered Beast* title—at no cost.
For those who subscribe to the Sega Star Event Pass, there’s even more to look forward to. The pass grants access to the Weredragon from *Altered Beast* and Opa-Opa, the original mascot of Sega hailing from the *Fantasy Zone* series.
Lucky you—the excitement doesn’t stop there! Additional characters like Upa-Upa and Werebear will also be available through the in-game Ring Shop, while the Red Star Ring Shop will feature AiAi and MeeMee from *Super Monkey Ball*.
While it's uncommon for a major crossover event to occur before a full release, this move highlights Sega’s confidence in the game’s early success and hints at what’s to come. According to Sega, this is just the beginning of what promises to be a packed schedule of collaborations and crossovers planned for Sonic Rumble.
And if that wasn't enough to keep you entertained, keep an eye out for another upcoming mobile title.
