Silent Hill 2 Remake developers dream of a horror in the “Lord of the Rings” universe

Bloober Team, the studio behind the acclaimed Silent Hill 2 Remake, recently revealed an intriguing concept: a Lord of the Rings survival horror game. While the project never progressed beyond the concept stage due to licensing issues, the idea of a grim, Middle-earth-set horror game captivated both developers and fans.

Director Mateusz Lenart, in a recent Bonfire Conversations podcast, discussed the potential of such a game, highlighting the rich source material in Tolkien's works for creating a truly terrifying atmosphere. The dark plots and unsettling elements within the Lord of the Rings lore would have lent themselves perfectly to a survival horror experience, with possibilities ranging from encounters with the Nazgûl to the unsettling presence of Gollum.

However, Bloober Team is currently focused on their new project, Cronos: The New Dawn, and potential future collaborations with Konami on Silent Hill titles. Whether they will revisit the Lord of the Rings horror concept remains to be seen, but the initial idea clearly holds significant appeal.
