Ready or Not Sells 1M Copies Amid Censorship Debate

The console port of Ready or Not launched last week and has already exceeded one million sales. Combined with the early access PC version released in December 2023, the game has now surpassed 10 million total units sold.

"When we launched Ready or Not on PC, it reached one million sales in about 36 days," said VOID Interactive CEO Julio Rodriguez. "On console, it achieved that milestone in roughly 3.6 days. I am immensely proud of the team and what we've accomplished together. This is a significant moment, and we do not take it lightly."

Rodriguez also thanked the players of Ready or Not and "everyone who believed in the project."

Last week, on July 15, VOID Interactive proceeded with changes to the controversial shooter Ready or Not, despite widespread criticism from fans who accused the developer of "censoring" the game's violence and gore to "appease console market regulators."

VOID stated that adjustments to the levels of gore, nudity, violence, and depictions involving children were necessary ahead of the console release. To avoid maintaining multiple game versions with differing assets and mechanics—which could increase the risk of bugs—some aspects of the PC version were also revised.

At the time, VOID maintained that the alterations were "minor enough that most players wouldn't notice if we remained silent," but the studio "wanted to be transparent" with its community. Players disagreed, and the announcement caused Ready or Not's recent user review rating on Steam to drop to "Mostly Negative." Prior to the controversy, the game held a "Mostly Positive" rating.

However, within 20 minutes of the unpopular changes going live, a mod was released to revert them.
