Oblivion Remastered Update Causes Visual Glitches; Bethesda Seeks Fix

Author : Harper Update : May 22,2025

PC players of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered encountered unexpected issues following a surprise update released today. Bethesda has acknowledged the problems and assured fans that a solution is forthcoming.

Upon launching the game, players discovered that Virtuos’ extensive re-release had been updated without any accompanying patch notes or explanation. While some continued playing without noticing significant changes, others quickly reported that the update had introduced more problems than solutions.

One Reddit user highlighted the issue, stating, "Can't change the upscaling methods anymore. It's set to ‘off’ and while the arrows are clickable, nothing happens. So I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVIDIA app (was testing something before the patch came) and started the game again. Loading times for my save are long again and still can't change upscaling settings lol. Now I am stuck with 40-60 fps in high settings with a 5800X3D and a 5080. Nice patch :D"

While some players haven't experienced significant performance changes, others are dealing with reduced framerates. Additionally, many have found that upscaling settings are now inaccessible, posing major visual challenges just before Oblivion Remastered’s first weekend in players’ hands.

Bethesda has responded to the community's concerns with a post on its official support page. According to the post, the update was intended to include "a few backend tweaks and nothing directly impacting gameplay." However, it appears that players who purchased Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are primarily affected, facing issues with upscaling and anti-aliasing options.

"Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix are still enabled and function normally," Bethesda clarified. "However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to the issue with the settings UI. The team is taking a look and working out a resolution, we will share more info as soon as we can."
