Performance Issues Vary Across Games and Hardware

Testing by PC Gamer revealed inconsistent results. While Black Myth: Wukong, running on a high-end Ryzen 7 7800X3D and RTX 4070 Super system, experienced a noticeable 12% FPS drop at medium settings with the Nvidia App's overlay enabled, Cyberpunk 2077 showed no significant performance difference with the overlay on or off on a Core Ultra 9 285K and RTX 4080 Super system. This suggests the problem's impact varies depending on the game and PC hardware.

The issue was initially reported on Twitter (X), prompting an Nvidia staff member to suggest temporarily disabling the "Game Filters and Photo Mode" overlay as a workaround. However, many users report ongoing instability even after this fix. Some community suggestions include reverting to older graphics drivers.

Nvidia App: A GeForce Experience Replacement

Launched in beta in February 2024 and officially released in November 2024, the Nvidia App replaces GeForce Experience, offering streamlined GPU optimization, game recording, and other features. The official launch included a graphics driver update, preparing for new game releases. The app uses a new overlay system and eliminates the need for separate account logins.

Despite its improved features, the performance inconsistencies highlight a need for further investigation and potential updates from Nvidia to address the reported FPS drops. Until a permanent fix is released, users experiencing problems should consider the temporary overlay disablement or driver rollback solutions.
