MultiVersus Closing Soon: Season 5 Marks the End

Author : Patrick Update : Feb 25,2025

Player First Games has announced the impending closure of its platform fighter, MultiVersus, with Season 5 marking its final chapter. The game, launched May 28, 2024, will conclude its run on May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. This announcement, detailed in a blog post on the studio's website, signals the end of online support.

Season 5, launching February 4, 2025, will be the game's swan song. While online play will cease after May 30th, Player First Games assures players that all acquired content will remain accessible offline via local and training modes.

The MultiVersus team expressed gratitude for player support in a statement: “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.”

Real-money transactions have been discontinued, effective immediately. However, Gleamium and character tokens can still be utilized to unlock in-game content until the May 30th shutdown. The game will also be removed from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at that time.

MultiVersus' closure follows reports of its underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million loss for the company's games division. This financial setback, along with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad, contributed to a challenging year for the company.

Despite the game's imminent closure, Season 5 will feature new content, including the addition of Lola Bunny and Aquaman as playable characters. Lola Bunny will be a daily calendar reward, while Aquaman will be available via the battle pass, both launching next week.
