Larian Reveals Exciting New Subclasses for Baldur

While many fans believed Patch 7 would mark the end of major updates for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian Studios has exciting news: another significant update is on the horizon, slated for release in 2025. This upcoming patch is set to introduce a host of new features, including crossplay support, a photo mode, and, most notably, 12 new subclasses, each designed to enrich the gameplay with unique mechanics.

We've already had a glimpse into four of these subclasses, and now it's time to delve into the remaining ones: Oath of the Crown Paladin, Arcane Archer, Drunken Master Monk, and Swarmkeeper Ranger. Let's explore what these new additions bring to the table.

Oath of the Crown Paladin

Dedicated to justice and order, the Oath of the Crown Paladin prioritizes the welfare of society above all else. This subclass introduces the Divine Devotion ability, a powerful tool that not only absorbs incoming damage directed at allies but also restores their health, making it an invaluable asset in maintaining the frontline and supporting the party.

Arcane Archer

The Arcane Archer masterfully blends martial skill with arcane magic, turning arrows into potent weapons of enchantment. With the ability to imbue arrows that can blind, weaken, or even banish enemies to the Feywild until the next turn, this subclass offers strategic depth in combat. Moreover, if an arrow misses its mark, the Arcane Archer can redirect its path to hit another target, ensuring that no shot goes to waste.

Drunken Master Monk

Embracing the unorthodox, the Drunken Master Monk integrates alcohol into their combat style, turning inebriation into a tactical advantage. Their signature move intoxicates opponents, causing disorientation while simultaneously enhancing the monk’s own abilities. The use of Instant Sobriety on an intoxicated foe inflicts both physical and mental damage, making this subclass a fascinating mix of offense and utility.

Swarmkeeper Ranger

The Swarmkeeper Ranger forms a symbiotic relationship with swarms of creatures, harnessing their power to bolster defense and mobility. These swarms not only shield the ranger from harm but also facilitate teleportation, adding a layer of tactical versatility. In battle, the ranger can deploy three distinct types of swarms: electric jellyfish clusters, blinding moth clouds, and stinging bee legions. The latter can knock back enemies failing a strength check by an impressive 4.5 meters, making this subclass a formidable force on the battlefield.

With these new subclasses, Baldur's Gate 3 continues to expand its already rich universe, offering players even more ways to tailor their gameplay experience to their preferred style. The anticipation for the 2025 update is palpable, as it promises to bring not just these intriguing subclasses but also the much-requested crossplay support and a new photo mode to capture all your epic moments in the game.
