In a recent video from Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be released on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an enhanced version of the 2020 PS4 game, Final Fantasy VII Remake, which is the first installment in a trilogy remaking the iconic 1997 PS1 RPG, Final Fantasy VII. Intergrade, available on PS5 and PC, boasts upgraded graphics and lighting compared to the PS4 version, along with the Intermission DLC, which introduces the story of the spirited ninja Yuffie in Midgar.

Hamaguchi highlighted that the Switch 2's enhanced capabilities will allow the game to be fully realized on Nintendo's new handheld platform. "With the power of the Switch 2, we can now recreate Midgar with full specs," he explained. He also emphasized the convenience of playing the game on the go, stating, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This portability, he added, will facilitate direct discussions and sharing of gameplay progress with others.

The Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will include GameChat, a feature that allows players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time. "I'm very excited to see this game playable on a portable system," Hamaguchi expressed, and he is optimistic about fostering a robust partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand.

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 at this point, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent entries, such as Rebirth and the final chapter of the trilogy, may also make their way to the Switch 2.

The Final Fantasy series has historical ties to Nintendo, having originated on their consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997, which was the franchise's first foray into 3D gaming. With the remake series, fans will see Final Fantasy VII return to Nintendo hardware.
