What are Cursed Objects in Phasmophobia?

Cursed Objects (or "Cursed Possessions") are randomly generated items in Phasmophobia, appearing on various maps depending on game mode and settings. Activation requires finding and interacting with them within the location. Unlike standard equipment, they offer gameplay advantages at a cost.

Using a Cursed Object might reveal the ghost's room, buff your team, or provide other benefits. However, this always involves a trade-off: significant sanity loss, temporary blindness, or a sudden, extended "Cursed Hunt." Strategic use is crucial; sometimes, avoiding them is the better option. Note that Cursed Objects won't appear at all difficulty levels or in Challenge Mode.

How Cursed Objects Function in Phasmophobia

Phasmophobia currently features seven Cursed Objects, each with unique abilities and drawbacks. A common consequence is a substantial sanity drop for the user. Proximity to the user increases the likelihood of a Cursed Hunt.

Cursed Hunts are similar to regular hunts but disregard your sanity level and can occur even after a recent hunt. They also last 20 seconds longer, making escape more challenging.

The following table details each Cursed Object's mechanics:

Cursed ObjectAbility
Tarot CardsTen cards offering buffs, debuffs, or increased ghost activity. The "Death" card can trigger a Cursed Hunt.
Ouija BoardDirect communication with the ghost. Certain questions ("Hide and Seek") or shattering the board initiates a Cursed Hunt.
Haunted MirrorReveals the ghost's favored room. Shattering the mirror triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Music BoxReveals the ghost's location via a special event. Prolonged use triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Summoning CircleSummons and traps the ghost. Always triggers a Cursed Hunt unless a Tier 3 Crucifix is present.
Voodoo DollForces ghost interactions by pushing pins. Pushing the heart pin triggers a Cursed Hunt.
Monkey PawGrants wishes affecting the ghost or environment. Some wishes severely hinder the player.

Best Cursed Objects to Use

The optimal Cursed Objects depend on game mode and difficulty. However, some are generally safer and more beneficial:

Haunted Mirror

The Haunted Mirror is the safest option, efficiently revealing the ghost's location with minimal risk. Knowing the map layout maximizes its effectiveness. Limit usage to avoid sanity loss and triggering a Cursed Hunt.
