Board Up Your Base: Essential Guide for Project Zomboid
Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid is crucial. While finding a safe haven is relatively easy, keeping it safe from the undead hordes is a whole different ball game. This guide focuses on a fundamental defense strategy: barricading windows.
Building Basic Window Barricades in Project Zomboid
To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific items: a wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once you've gathered these materials, simply right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window can support up to four planks for enhanced protection.
Locating the necessary materials is key. Hammers and nails are typically found in places like toolboxes, garages, sheds, and closets. Wooden planks are commonly found at construction sites, or as a last resort, you can dismantle wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command for easier access.
Barricaded windows significantly hinder zombie entry attempts compared to unprotected windows. The more planks you add, the longer it takes for the undead to breach your defenses. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." You'll need a claw hammer or crowbar for this action.
It's important to note that larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as window barriers. Characters and zombies will simply pass through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a valuable skill for interior design purposes.
For more robust barricades, consider using metal bars or sheets. However, this requires sufficient Metalworking skill.
