Application Description

MAME4droid, a project by David Valdeita (Seleuco), is an Android adaptation of the iMAME4all emulator originally developed for jailbroken iPhones and iPads. It's a port of MAME 0.37b5, crafted by Nicola Salmoria and the MAME Team, and it builds on the foundation laid by Franxis's GP2X, WIZ MAME4ALL 2.5. This emulator supports a broad spectrum of arcade games from the MAME 0.37b5 version, plus select games from more recent iterations of MAME, offering emulation for over 2000 different romsets.

It's important to recognize that with such an extensive library of games, performance can vary significantly. Some games will run smoothly, while others may not work at all within the MAME4droid framework. Users are advised against reaching out for support on specific game compatibility. For owners of older devices, achieving optimal performance might be challenging. To enhance your gaming experience, consider using lower quality sound or turning it off, opting for 8-bit depth, underclocking the CPU and Sound CPUs, and disabling animations for sticks and buttons, as well as smooth scaling.

To get started, install your MAME-titled zipped roms in the /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/roms directory. MAME4droid is designed to work exclusively with '0.37b5' and 'GP2X, WIZ 0.37b11 mame romset', and includes a "clrmame.dat" file in /sdcard/ROMs/MAME4all/ to facilitate conversion of romsets from other MAME versions to those compatible with this emulator, using the ClrMAME Pro utility found at http://mamedev.emulab.it/clrmamepro/. Please note, MAME4droid does not support save states, as it is based on a MAME version lacking this feature.
