Xbox Franchise Rumored for Switch 2, PS5
Summary
- Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are reportedly being developed for the PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
- These new versions of both games are anticipated to launch in 2025.
- Insiders suggest that many more first-party Xbox games will go multi-platform in the coming year.
According to a recent report by a reputable industry insider, Halo: The Master Chief Collection may soon be available on the PS5 and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. The same source indicates that another major Xbox franchise could also be heading to multiple platforms.
Microsoft began its strategy to expand its first-party titles to other consoles in February 2024. The initial wave of multi-platform releases included Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. Some analysts also include As Dusk Falls in this group, as it was originally published by Xbox Game Studios and remained an Xbox exclusive for 20 months before going multi-platform. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 joined this list in October 2024, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle set to follow on the PS5 in spring 2025.
The insider, NateTheHate, mentioned on his January 10 podcast that he has heard Halo: The Master Chief Collection is being ported to both the PS5 and the Switch 2. These new versions of the iconic six-game bundle are expected to be released in 2025.
Microsoft Flight Simulator Also Reportedly Coming to PS5 and Switch 2
In addition to Halo, NateTheHate reported that Microsoft Flight Simulator is also likely to become available on PS5 and Switch 2. Although he did not specify which version, it is presumed he meant the latest installment, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, released on November 19. Both games are slated for a 2025 release on these new platforms.
'Way More' Xbox Games Are Reportedly Going Multi-Platform in 2025
This information was further supported by another insider, Jez Corden, who recently tweeted that "way more" Xbox games will be coming to the PS5 and Switch 2. Corden has been vocal about his belief that the era of Xbox console exclusives is coming to an end.
The Call of Duty series is also expected to expand to more platforms. As part of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard, a commitment was made to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo consoles for ten years, announced in late 2022. While no Switch versions have been released yet, it's speculated that Microsoft is waiting for the more powerful Nintendo Switch 2 to launch, which would be better suited for modern, realistic military shooters.
