Sleeping Dogs Movie Adaptation in the Works by Marvel Star

Simu Liu, the star of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is reportedly attempting to resurrect the cancelled Sleeping Dogs film adaptation. Newsweek reported Liu's response to a fan on X/Twitter, stating he's actively "working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen."

The project, initially announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen attached to star, vanished a year later. Yen recently confirmed its cancellation, citing years of invested time, effort, and personal funds, only to see the project ultimately fail to materialize due to the unpredictable nature of Hollywood.

Liu's intervention reignites hope for the Hong Kong-set action franchise. However, the success of his efforts in securing the rights or otherwise reviving the film remains uncertain.

The original Sleeping Dogs video game, released for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, follows undercover detective Wei Shen as he navigates the treacherous world of Hong Kong's Triad gangs. Critically acclaimed (earning an 8/10 from IGN), the game, despite its popularity, never received a sequel. Liu's involvement could potentially change that, bringing this beloved game to the silver screen.
