How to Get Your Ship Moving in Divinity: Original Sin 2
Quick Links
Having successfully escaped Fort Joy and removed your Source collar in Divinity: Original Sin 2, you now find yourself aboard the Elven ship, Lady Vengeance. Your next objective is to get the ship sailing, but Lady Vengeance isn't just any vessel; it requires an unconventional approach to set sail. To navigate this challenge, you'll need to explore the ship, engage with various NPCs, and potential companions to uncover the secrets of its operation. Your goal is to access Magister Dallis' cabin, retrieve the Ancient Songbook, and sing the song to the ship. If you're struggling to move the ship forward, this guide will help you progress through the chapter.
Investigate Dead Bodies On The Ship
The quest to sail Lady Vengeance is a puzzle, with solutions scattered throughout the ship. Start by examining and looting the magister and gheist bodies on the deck for valuables and clues. Among them, you'll find a Sodden Diary on a dead magister, which contains the password to unlock a crucial door in the ship's cabin.
You can also discover the password to the Stateroom Door by passing a skill check when interacting with the northern Stateroom Door.
In addition to learning the password for the Portside Stateroom door, you'll need another essential item to interact with it—a Strange Gem.
Near the stateroom doors, a short distance to the south, you'll find a magic mirror. This mirror allows you to respec your character and companions indefinitely. If you need to persuade the second stateroom door for the password, use the magic mirror to reallocate ability points and pass the necessary check.
Find The Portside Stateroom Door In The Ship's Quarters
Armed with the password, head to the ship's quarters to locate the next item needed for the Portside Stateroom door. While exploring, take the opportunity to interact with NPCs and invite suitable companions to join your party. To the west of the cabin, you'll find an unconscious Bishop Alexander, now wearing a Source collar. To the east, you'll encounter the mysterious Stateroom doors.
Before approaching the Stateroom doors, visit Bishop Alexander and choose the option to "Look closely at his simple Regalia" to discover the Strange Gem. Add it to your inventory and return to the eastern Stateroom doors.
Interact with the southern door, which will acknowledge the Strange Gem in your possession. To unlock it, use the password "Fortitude," which you learned from the Sodden Diary. This will grant you access to Magister Dallis' cabin, where you'll find the next piece of the puzzle.
Dallis' cabin also features a hidden hatch containing two deadly gheists and a Teleportation Prism.
Finding The Ancient Empire Songbook To Get The Ship Moving
Inside Magister Dallis' cabin, you'll meet Tarquin, an important NPC. Before exploring further, engage with Dallis and exhaust all his dialogue options. The cabin is small, making it easy to locate the Ancient Empire Songbook, which rests on a pedestal at its center. Reading the songbook will prompt a comment from your character about the cryptic text.
Before moving the ship, take the time to speak with all NPCs, as once the ship starts sailing, you won't be able to interact with them or switch companions.
Getting The Ship Moving
With the song learned, return to the ship's deck and inform Malady of your discovery. She'll instruct you to sing the song to the ship. Head to the western part of the deck to find the dragon figurine. Interact with it and choose to sing the song. Lady Vengeance will respond, allowing you to learn more about the ship before setting sail on your Godwoken journey.
Be prepared for an immediate ambush by powerful magisters once the ship starts moving, ensuring your party is well-equipped and not lacking in companions.
