Pokemon GO Lunar New Year 2025 Event Announced

Niantic has officially announced the *Pokémon GO* Lunar New Year 2025 event, set to run from **Wednesday, January 29**, at 10:00 a.m. to **Sunday, February 2**, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. This festive celebration brings a host of exciting in-game opportunities for trainers to catch rare Pokémon, earn bonus rewards, and enjoy seasonal-themed activities.

During the event, players will experience an increased chance to receive Lucky Pokémon when trading, along with a higher probability of becoming Lucky Friends. These mechanics enhance your chances of acquiring stronger, more valuable Pokémon for your collection or team-building efforts.

Increased Wild Encounters & Shiny Appearances

Trainers can expect to encounter several Pokémon appearing more frequently in the wild throughout the event period. These include:

  • Ekans
  • Onix
  • Snivy
  • Darumaka
  • Dunsparce
  • Gyarados
  • Dratini

Additionally, there will be an elevated chance to encounter Shiny variants of Ekans, Onix, and Snivy—making this a prime opportunity for collectors and completionists alike.

Egg Hatches & Field Research Rewards

During the Lunar New Year event, players hatching 2 km Eggs may find:

  • Makuhita
  • Nosepass
  • Meditite
  • Duskull
  • Skorupi

Lunar New Year-themed Field Research tasks will also be available, offering Stardust, XP, and special Pokémon encounters as rewards. For those looking to maximize their gains, a $2 Paid Timed Research track is available, featuring exclusive rewards such as two Lucky Eggs, an Incubator, and guaranteed encounters with Ekans and Nosepass.

Event Bonuses & Collection Challenges

Participating in Routes during the event will reward players with Stardust, XP, and Zygarde Cells—valuable resources for leveling up and evolving Pokémon. Trainers who complete all assigned research tasks can claim their rewards before the event ends on February 2 at 8:00 p.m. local time.

For added engagement, players can showcase their best Lunar New Year Pokémon in PokéStop Showcases and earn additional item bundles based on community participation results. An event-specific Collection Challenge will also be introduced, rewarding participants with extra Stardust—a boon for active traders during the event window.

What Comes Next?

This event marks one of the early highlights in what promises to be a packed year for *Pokémon GO*. As the game approaches its ninth anniversary in 2025, Niantic continues to roll out fresh content, leading up to summer events and the global celebration of Pokémon GO Fest. The upcoming Pokémon GO Tour: Unova, scheduled for February 21–23 in Los Angeles and New Taipei City, will further expand the roster of available Pokémon and introduce new gameplay experiences.
