"Oblivion Remastered's 'Spookmane' Ghost Horse Discovery Triggers Community Hunt"
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is packed with eerie elements — from skeletons and spirits to zombies — but one mysterious entity, a 'ghost horse,' has caught the attention of the community, as it doesn't appear in either the original 2006 game or the 2025 remaster.
Our story begins with a Reddit post by user TaricIsNotASupport, who shared an image of what looks like a spectral horse waiting to be discovered.
Uhhhh, guys, is this new?

"So I was crafting silly spells in Frostcrag Spire, which is perhaps my favorite way to enjoy the game. However, upon leaving the Cosy Chaos Spire — a feature that has sparked much debate within the community — I noticed something incredibly strange in the distance," TaricIsNotASupport recounted.
"Like any sensible player, I dashed over there. To my amazement, I found this spectral horse, which had no name. I've logged thousands of hours in the original Oblivion and over a hundred in the Remaster, yet this is the first time I've encountered this horse. I'm unsure if it's a new addition or something I've simply missed before."
TaricIsNotASupport reached out to the community for help in unraveling the mystery, sparking an online ghost hunt. Players scoured the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages for any mention of a spectral mount in the original game, but found nothing.
To the people asking if I can ride or interact with the spooky horse, yes! 1/2

Could this be a mod? TaricIsNotASupport clarified that they are playing on a PlayStation 5, where mods are not available. They also shared a clip of their character riding the horse, which, despite its ethereal appearance, functions just like any other horse in Oblivion. "He fast travels and even gets stabled!" TaricIsNotASupport exclaimed. "By all accounts, it's now my steed!"
Some speculate that this ghost horse might be a glitch, possibly triggered by a spell gone awry. Bethesda games are notorious for their bugs, and this ghost horse could be another addition to the list. "Very weird, the wiki says there are only two unique horses, Shadowmere and unicorns," commented ClaymoreBeatz. "And there are no horse mods that do this, so I highly doubt you're lying about not being on PC. This is probably some sort of glitch in the new Remastered or a glitched magical effect. Armored horses' names change to 'Armored horse,' so perhaps it's an armored horse that got hit by a spell, causing its name and spell effect to glitch."
I was asked if Spookmane* can be buffed and if it stays spectral; the answer is yes!

Others wonder if Bethesda and Virtuos might have added this ghost horse as a hidden Easter egg for players to discover in Oblivion Remastered. While less likely, it's an exciting possibility that hints at more secrets within the remaster.
Many players are eager to replicate the phenomenon to have their own ghost horse. However, no specific method has been discovered yet. In the absence of an in-game name, TaricIsNotASupport has affectionately dubbed their new companion 'Spookmane.' They've pledged to continue their adventure with Spookmane by their side. Whether it's a one-off occurrence, a secret, or a bug, Spookmane has captured the imagination and affection of the Oblivion community.
"This creature might be my favorite new friend I've made," TaricIsNotASupport said. "Spookmane, you're glorious and I love you."
Oblivion Remastered, developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, boasts numerous visual and feature enhancements. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, but also includes significant improvements to leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, a proper third-person view, and advanced lip sync technology have also been added. Fans have praised these changes, with some arguing that Oblivion Remastered should be considered a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified their decision to go with a remaster.
With the game now released, players advise newcomers to tackle Kvatch early before the level scaling turns it into a daunting challenge. There are also reports of a player who managed to break out of Cyrodiil to explore Valenwood, Skyrim, and even Hammerfell, the rumored setting for The Elder Scrolls VI.
