There will “never” be another Back to the Future—no sequel, no prequel, no spinoff, and certainly no TV series—according to Bob Gale, co-writer of the beloved trilogy. Despite recent speculation sparked by the creators of Cobra Kai discussing a potential Back to the Future series, Gale has shut down any possibility with a firm and definitive "never."

In an interview with People, Gale expressed frustration over the persistent rumors. “I don't know why they keep talking about that!” he said. “Do they think that if they say it enough times, we're going to actually do it?”

For fans still holding out hope for Back to the Future 4 or any extension of the franchise, Gale’s message is clear: the story is complete. “When is there going to be a prequel?” he asked rhetorically. “Never. ‘When is there going to be a spinoff?’ Never. It's just fine the way it is. It's not perfect, but as Bob Zemeckis used to say, ‘It's perfect enough.’ ”

While the final decision would ultimately require approval from executive producer Steven Spielberg, Gale emphasized that Spielberg shares the same sentiment. Referencing Hollywood’s power with a touch of humor, Gale joked, “If the juggernaut of corporate America or corporate international mishigas says, ‘If you don't agree to this, we're going to kill your children,’ alright, well, no, we don't want our children killed.”

But in reality, he added, Spielberg has always respected the integrity of the original trilogy. “Steven, just like he won't allow another E.T., totally respects the fact that we don't want any more Back to the Future. He gets it and always stood behind that. And thank you, Steven.”

Gale’s stance is nothing new. Back in February, he delivered an even blunter message to fans hoping for a continuation: “People always say, ‘When are you going to do Back to the Future 4?’ And we say, ‘F**k you.’ ”

The original 1985 film, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown, remains a cornerstone of science fiction cinema. Its seamless blend of humor, heart, and time-traveling adventure led to two acclaimed sequels, wrapping up the story in a way the creators believe needs no revisiting.
