FFXIV Mobile Version Listed in China's Approved Games

A recent report from Niko Partners, a leading video game market research firm, suggests Square Enix and Tencent are collaborating on a mobile adaptation of Final Fantasy XIV. This article explores the details of this potential joint venture.

FFXIV Mobile Game: Mostly Speculation

Niko Partners' report highlights 15 games approved by China's National Press and Publication Administration (NPPA) for release within the country. Among these is a mobile version of Final Fantasy XIV, reportedly under development by Tencent. Other notable titles in the list include mobile and PC versions of Rainbow Six, and mobile games based on Marvel Snap, Marvel Rivals, and Dynasty Warriors 8.

While rumors of a Tencent-developed FFXIV mobile game circulated last month, neither Square Enix nor Tencent has officially confirmed the project.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, the mobile game is anticipated to be a standalone MMORPG, distinct from the PC version. However, Ahmad emphasizes that this information is based primarily on industry speculation and lacks official confirmation.

Tencent's significant presence in the mobile gaming market makes this partnership plausible. The rumored collaboration aligns with Square Enix's recently announced strategy to aggressively pursue multiplatform releases for its key titles, including the Final Fantasy franchise.
