EA's Skate Gets Microtransactions Before Its Release Date
EA's upcoming Skate revival, currently in closed alpha, has integrated microtransactions. As reported by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle has introduced a virtual currency, San Van Bucks, used to purchase cosmetic items. The company aims to gather player feedback on the in-game store experience before the early access launch, stating a desire for a “positive experience when purchasing items.” Full Circle has also confirmed that all player progress will be reset before early access, and any purchases made during the alpha will be refunded as San Van Bucks upon early access launch.
Skate's early access release is slated for 2025. Initially announced at EA Play in 2020 as a game in very early development, Full Circle has maintained consistent communication with the community through closed playtests and the "The Board Room" video series. The game's official title, skate, and its free-to-play status across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC were confirmed in 2022.
