RuneScape: Dragonwilds caught everyone off guard with its early access announcement. In an exciting livestream on April 16, developer Jagex revealed that the game is now accessible for early access on Steam. This comes only weeks following its first trailer release on April 2, which itself was a surprise after the game opened for wishlisting on Steam on April 1. Initially teased in 2022, the game's alpha testing signups began in late 2024, but it wasn't until March 31, 2025, that RuneScape: Dragonwilds was officially unveiled.

Jagex has set their sights on an early 2026 release for Dragonwilds. They emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished and engaging experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to ensure our players enjoy a complete, satisfying experience that you’ll want to revisit with friends time and time again."

Jagex Executive Producer Jesse America highlighted that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape universe, designed to captivate both long-time fans and newcomers. He added, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while closely listening to community feedback to create an iconic open world survival crafting game that resonates with everyone."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed

Jagex has shared an exciting early access roadmap, outlining the upcoming enhancements for Dragonwilds. A highlight is the introduction of Fellhollow, a mystical region teetering between life and death, governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru. Influenced by the anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld, players will embark on new quests with the iconic character Death, uncovering new lore, gear, and music. Additionally, new skills in magic, ranged combat, and farming will be added.

Players can also look forward to battling new Lesser Dragons, equipping dragon slayer gear, and experiencing both hardcore and creative modes. Although specific update dates remain undisclosed, Jagex promises continuous improvements throughout the early access phase.
