CDPR's Idris Elba Eyes Live-Action 'Cyberpunk' with Keanu

Idris Elba, star of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, envisions a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action film alongside Keanu Reeves. This exciting prospect was revealed in a recent interview.

A Night City Reunion?

Elba expressed his enthusiasm for a live-action adaptation, suggesting a pairing of his character, Solomon Reed, with Reeves' iconic Johnny Silverhand would be electrifying. He stated to ScreenRant, "I think if any film could do a live-action rendition, it could be [Cyberpunk 2077], and I think his character and my character together would be, ‘Whoa.’ So, let's speak that into existence." This isn't a completely unfounded hope; Variety reported in October 2023 that a live-action project is underway, with CD Projekt Red collaborating with Anonymous Content.

While details remain scarce, the success of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and the Witcher live-action series suggests a Cyberpunk 2077 adaptation is a strong possibility.

More Cyberpunk on the Horizon

Beyond the potential live-action film, the Cyberpunk universe continues to expand. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners MADNESS, a prequel manga, has launched in several languages, with the English version expected later. A Blu-ray release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is also planned for 2025.
