Dragon Quest XII permanece en desarrollo, con actualizaciones que se publicarán de manera incremental, según el creador de la serie Yuji Horii.

Durante una reciente transmisión en vivo con su grupo de programas de radio, Kosokoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmó que el equipo de desarrollo de Square Enix está trabajando diligentemente en Dragon Quest XII. Esta marca la primera actualización oficial desde mayo de 2024, después del paso de las figuras clave Akira Toriyama (diseñador de personajes) y Koichi Sugiyama (compositor), y la partida del productor principal Yu Miyake.

La reestructuración previa en Square Enix y la falta de noticias recientes habían provocado preocupaciones de los fanáticos sobre la posible cancelación del juego. Sin embargo, la declaración de Horii alivia estos temores, asegurando a los fanáticos que el desarrollo continúa.

El único visual actualmente disponible para Dragon Quest XII es este logotipo, presentado en 2021.

Inicialmente anunciado durante la celebración del 35 aniversario de la franquicia, Dragon Quest XII será la primera entrega de la serie principal desde Dragon Quest XI de 2017: Echoes of a Evlive Age.
