Dragon Quest xii bleibt in der Entwicklung, wobei laut den Erstellern Yuji Horii der Serienschritt die Aktualisierungen inkrementell veröffentlicht werden.

Während eines kürzlichen Livestreams mit seiner Radiosendung Group, Kosokoso Hōsō Kyoku, bestätigte Horii, dass das Square Enix -Entwicklungsteam fleißig an Dragon Quest XII arbeitet. Dies ist das erste offizielle Update seit Mai 2024, nachdem die wichtigsten Zahlen Akira Toriyama (Charakterdesigner) und Koichi Sugiyama (Komponist) sowie der Abgang des leitenden Produzenten Yu Miyake.

Eine frühere Umstrukturierung bei Square Enix und ein Mangel an jüngsten Nachrichten hatten Fan -Bedenken hinsichtlich der potenziellen Stornierung des Spiels ausgelöst. Die Aussage von Horii liefert jedoch diese Ängste und versichert den Fans, dass die Entwicklung fortgesetzt wird.

Das einzige derzeit verfügbare Visual für Dragon Quest XII ist dieses Logo, das 2021 vorgestellt wurde.

Dragon Quest XII wurde zunächst während der 35. Jubiläumsfeier des Franchise angekündigt und wird die erste Rate der Hauptserie seit 2017 von Dragon Quest XI: Echoes eines schwer fassbaren Alters sein. Square Enix hat seitdem berichtet, dass das HD-2D-Remake Dragon Quest III HD-2D die Verkaufsprojektionen überschritten hat und 2 Millionen verkaufte Einheiten erreicht hat.
