WB Reportedly Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC
According to a recent report by Bloomberg, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned expansion was intended to be a story-driven addition to the Harry Potter adventure game, set to launch this year alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the title. However, Bloomberg's sources indicate that the DLC was scrapped this week due to concerns that the content did not justify the price being considered. Warner Bros. declined to provide a comment to Bloomberg regarding this decision.
This cancellation comes as Warner Bros. continues to restructure its gaming division amid financial challenges. The company has made several significant moves in recent times, including the cancellation of its planned Wonder Woman game and the closure of the studio behind it, Monolith Productions. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games, have also been shut down. Moreover, layoffs at Rocksteady occurred just last September, reflecting the broader restructuring efforts.
Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. has emphasized the importance of the Hogwarts Legacy franchise and the Harry Potter universe as key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, focusing on developing fewer but more significant franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
