Warner Bros. Pulls Plug on Mortal Kombat: Onslaught

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Mortal Kombat: Onslaught less than a year after its launch. The mobile game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the game's closure.

In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.

The exact reasons for the shutdown remain undisclosed. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division (responsible for Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice) suggests a broader strategic shift impacting other mobile titles.

What Happens to In-Game Purchases?

Refunds for in-game purchases are currently unconfirmed. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. haven't provided details on reimbursement for in-game currency or cosmetic items, but promise further information soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (initially announced in October 2022), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the series. Unlike other Mortal Kombat games, it prioritized a cinematic storyline and action-adventure gameplay alongside intense combat, similar to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered around Raiden and a player-controlled team thwarting Shinnok's bid for power.
