"Unlocking the Deep Woods: A Guide to Fields of Mistria"

Since Fields of Mistria entered Early Access on Steam, the Deep Woods area has been marked on the town map, but it remained inaccessible until the game's March 2025 update. Here's a detailed guide on how to access the Deep Woods and locate Caldarus in Fields of Mistria.

How to Unlock the Deep Woods in Fields of Mistria

To unlock the Deep Woods, you need to break the Fire Seal and use the new Dragon’s Breath spell to clear the vines blocking the entrance. Start by gathering four items for the Priestess’ Fire Seal altar located on Floor 60 of the mines: a Faceted Rock Gem, a Rockroot, an Emerald, and a Sealing Scroll. The first three items can be found between floors 50 and 59. For the Sealing Scroll, you must collaborate with Juniper and Balor.

To help Balor obtain the Sealing Scroll, place the following items in the bin by his wagon:

• 10 Silver Ingots
• 10 Rubies
• 10 Sapphires
• 10 Emeralds

After fulfilling these requirements, speak to Balor again, and he will inform you that the scroll will be available the next day. Once you have all four items, complete the offering at the altar.

Typically, breaking a magic seal results in a few words from the mines Priestess and the unlocking of a new biome. However, this time, the Priestess warns you to leave before the Sealing Scroll traps you inside. As your health depletes, Caldarus appears in his human form to rescue you and then retreats to his temple in the Deep Woods to recover.

Caldarus leaves you with the Dragon’s Breath spell, which you can use to burn through the vines at the Deep Woods entrance. To use it, equip the spell from the pause menu and activate it while standing in front of the entrance. This will permanently unlock the Deep Woods and other previously inaccessible areas.

How to Find Caldarus

After breaking the Fire Seal, you can find Caldarus in his temple within the Deep Woods. The temple is located north of the Eastern Road on your map. Use the Dragon’s Breath spell to access the area. Caldarus' exact location is marked on your map, similar to other NPCs, and he can be found in the northeast corner of the area.

To reach him, enter the Deep Woods, head right, and use your axe to chop down the stump blocking your path. Continue north until you arrive at the temple, where Caldarus awaits inside.

Once the Deep Woods are unlocked, you can use the Dragon Statue on your farm to fast travel to the area for just 10 Essence. This makes visiting Caldarus quick and convenient. You can also interact with him through his statue, even if it's just in spirit.
