The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer

Author : Andrew Update : Mar 19,2025

After two failed launches and months of anticipation, Rune Slayer has finally arrived, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for MMORPG newcomers. Fear not, this guide will help you conquer your Rune Slayer journey.

Here are some crucial tips we wish we'd known starting out:

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

Initial fears of a brutal, full-loot PvP system proved unfounded (mostly). Dying in Rune Slayer, even to other players, results in no permanent loss. You simply respawn and continue. However, attacking players incurs a bounty. More kills mean a larger bounty, leading to greater item losses upon your death. Therefore, avoid attacking unless strategically advantageous or backed by a group.

Craft Bags Immediately

Inventory and bank space are severely limited. Fortunately, you can craft bags. Two can be equipped simultaneously, starting with the Cotton Bag. Gather Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (beware of tougher mobs in the south). Each Cotton Bag adds 10 slots—craft them ASAP!

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to popular belief, your pets don't perish when their health reaches zero. Instead, they become unavailable for five minutes. Check the cooldown timer (hold T) and resummon after the five-minute period (also by holding T). Bonus: Quickly heal your pet by storing and retrieving it at the stable master (you have one free slot).

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer boasts a plethora of quests, mostly unremarkable "kill X" type missions. To streamline, accept every quest you encounter, including those from the job board. Often, quests can be combined, making progress much more efficient.

Craft Everything at Least Once

Prioritize crafting necessary items, but also craft anything you can with spare materials. Initial crafting often unlocks more powerful crafting recipes. For instance, smelting Iron Ore unlocked new Iron Armor recipes for us.

Join a Guild

While Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, tougher enemies necessitate group play. Guilds provide the easiest way to find groups, particularly for challenging high-health bosses. Join the general chat or use the official Rune Slayer Discord to find a guild.
