Doctor Doom 2099's Mechanics in Marvel Snap
Doctor Doom 2099 is a 4-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: "After each turn, add a DoomBot 2099 to a random location if you played (exactly) 1 card."
DoomBot 2099 (also 4-cost, 2-power) has the ability: "Ongoing: Your other DoomBots and Doom have +1 Power." Crucially, this buff applies to both DoomBot 2099s and regular Doctor Doom.
The core strategy revolves around playing exactly one card per turn after summoning Doctor Doom 2099. Early placement significantly amplifies his power. With optimal timing, he effectively becomes a 17-power card, potentially even higher with strategic card plays like Magik for extended turns.
Two key weaknesses exist: DoomBot 2099s appear randomly, potentially hindering your board control, and Enchantress completely negates their power boost.
Top Doctor Doom 2099 Decks
Doctor Doom 2099's one-card-per-turn requirement makes him ideal for Spectrum-style Ongoing decks. Here are two examples:
Deck 1: Spectrum-Focused Ongoing
- Ant-Man
- Goose
- Psylocke
- Captain America
- Cosmo
- Electro
- Doom 2099
- Wong
- Klaw
- Doctor Doom
- Spectrum
- Onslaught
This budget-friendly deck (only Doom 2099 is a Series 5 card) offers flexibility. Early Doom 2099 placement via Psylocke or Electro allows for powerful board control. Wong, Klaw, and Doctor Doom synergize for widespread power boosts. Electro enables powerful 6-cost card plays with DoomBot 2099s and Spectrum. Cosmo protects against Enchantress.
Deck 2: Patriot-Style Deck
- Ant-Man
- Zabu
- Dazzler
- Mister Sinister
- Patriot
- Brood
- Doom 2099
- Super Skrull
- Iron Lad
- Blue Marvel
- Doctor Doom
- Spectrum
Another affordable option (again, only Doom 2099 is Series 5), this deck utilizes a Patriot strategy. Early game cards like Mister Sinister and Brood set the stage for Doom 2099, followed by Blue Marvel and Doctor Doom or Spectrum. Zabu discounts 4-cost cards to compensate for missed Patriot plays. Flexibility is key; you can strategically skip DoomBot 2099 spawns to play stronger cards like Patriot and Iron Lad on the final turn. Super Skrull counters opposing Doom 2099 decks. However, this deck is vulnerable to Enchantress.
Is Doctor Doom 2099 Worth the Investment?
While the Spotlight Cache cards (Daken and Miek) accompanying Doom 2099 are relatively weak, Doom 2099 himself is a worthwhile acquisition. His power and deck-building affordability make him a likely meta staple. Collector's Tokens are the preferred method for obtaining him, but he's a valuable addition regardless. Unless nerfed, he's poised to become one of Marvel Snap's most impactful cards.
