TennoCon 2024 lifts the veil on the hotly anticipated Warframe: 1999
Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
TennoCon 2024 delivered a massive surprise: Warframe: 1999, a game-changing update transporting players to a retro-futuristic 1999. This isn't just another expansion; it's a complete reimagining of the Warframe experience.
The journey begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, introducing the world of 1999 and the new Warframe, Sevatgoth Prime, and its exclusive weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for accessing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999, where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus threatening global annihilation. The setting: Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city ravaged by Techrot. Navigation is handled via the new Atomicyles, futuristic vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Players control the Hex, a team of six unique characters, each equipped with a Protoframe, a Warframe showcasing the human beneath.
The Hex team, featuring Arthur (Excalibur), Aoi (Mag), and the new Warframe CYTE-09 (Quincy), among others, boasts an impressive voice cast including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interaction with the team is facilitated through an authentic 1999-style instant messaging system, offering a unique and engaging social element.
Adding to the 90s nostalgia, players will confront a villainous 90s boy band, On-lyne, led by the Technocyte-infected Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," is available on major streaming services.
Fashion takes center stage with significant upgrades to the fashion system. Players can now equip two fashion frame loadouts, seamlessly switching between them. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to bring the Protoframes, like Arthur and Aoi, into the Origin System, complete with fully voiced lines and engaging interactions with the Operator.
Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short based on Warframe: 1999, launching later this year. New Heirloom skins are also available, starting with Ember's today, followed by Rhino's in early 2025.
With Warframe: 1999's Winter 2024 release date fast approaching, download Warframe now from the App Store and prepare for a trip back in time!
