Capcom's significant involvement ensures authenticity, and the film is slated for release on March 20, 2026. While casting remains undisclosed, fans can anticipate appearances from beloved Street Fighter characters.

This marks another attempt to translate the Street Fighter universe to the silver screen, following the infamous 1994 adaptation starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ming-Na Wen, and the late Raul Julia. Despite mixed critical reception at the time, it remains a cult classic for many.

Sakurai's appointment, following the departure of Danny and Michael Philippou (directors of Talk to Me), suggests a shift towards a more absurdist, potentially cartoonish style. This departure from previous attempts could inject fresh energy into the franchise, appealing to fans who appreciate Street Fighter's more over-the-top aspects.

In the meantime, players can immerse themselves in the latest installment, Street Fighter 6, which recently introduced the new character, Mai Shiranui. Read our comprehensive Street Fighter 6 review for a deeper dive.
