Star Wars Outlaws Gets More Bad Sales News

Star Wars Outlaws Underperforms, Outsold by Jedi: Survivor

Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws, the franchise's first open-world title, is facing significant challenges. Released in August 2024, the game's sales have fallen short of expectations, leading to a sharp drop in Ubisoft's stock price. A recent report indicates that Star Wars Outlaws is being outsold by 2023's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a considerable blow to the game's prospects.

Negative player reception regarding combat and stealth mechanics, despite initially positive reviews, contributed to the underperformance. While Ubisoft implemented updates to address these issues, they proved insufficient to significantly boost sales. In September, Ubisoft acknowledged the game's failure to meet sales targets. In Europe, Star Wars Outlaws' ranking as the 47th best-selling game of 2024 further underscores its disappointing performance.

The disparity in sales between Outlaws and Jedi: Survivor can be attributed to several factors. Jedi: Survivor, a sequel to the successful Fallen Order, benefited from positive critical reception upon its April 2023 release and a subsequent update expanding its availability to PS4 and Xbox One. This sustained its popularity and sales momentum.

Conversely, Outlaws has struggled to gain traction, despite ongoing post-launch support. Massive Entertainment has released DLC expansions, including "Star Wars Outlaws: Wild Card" featuring Lando Calrissian, and the upcoming "Star Wars Outlaws: A Pirate's Fortune" featuring Hondo Ohnaka, slated for Spring 2025. However, these additions haven't been enough to reverse the game's poor sales trajectory. The future success of Star Wars Outlaws remains uncertain.
