Square Enix Hints at a Final Fantasy IX Remake
Square Enix's latest social media post has sent a wave of excitement through the fan community, with many interpreting it as a tease for a new Final Fantasy IX project. On April 7, the company shared an image on Twitter (X) featuring the poignant quote, "My memories will be part of the sky…".
This line is famously spoken by the beloved black mage Vivi at the conclusion of Final Fantasy IX. The post was captioned "If you know, you know," accompanied by a crying emoji. While not an official confirmation, fans were quick to connect the dots, believing this strongly suggests a remake is in development.

A remake of Final Fantasy IX has been a highly requested project for years, cherished by fans for its timeless charm and deeply emotional character stories. Even series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi has named it his personal favorite. Following the successful remake of Final Fantasy VII, and with FFIX's enduring popularity and its 25th anniversary approaching, many believe it's the perfect candidate for a similar treatment.
This idea isn't new. Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida discussed the possibility in a 2024 interview with Video Games, pondering what an FFIX remake might entail. He noted, "Of course, I am aware of the demand for a Final Fantasy IX remake, but when you consider the game, it has an enormous amount of content."
Yoshida added, "Thinking about all that volume, I wonder if it would be possible to remake it as a single title. It's a difficult question and a tough challenge."
New 3D Figures Featured on Final Fantasy IX's 25th Anniversary Site

Square Enix recently launched a special website to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy IX. The site mentions that various commemorative projects are currently in preparation.
This alone fueled remake speculation, but fans digging deeper noticed something intriguing about the new merchandise featured.
New Formism figures of Zidane and Garnet are now available for pre-order on the Square Enix store. The product descriptions have particularly caught attention, stating they "reinterpret and recreate the costume textures in three dimensions to commemorate the 25th anniversary." Speculation is rife that these updated, modernized designs might preview the characters' potential looks in a rumored remake.
While no official announcement has been made, the combination of Square Enix's suggestive social media activity and the anniversary celebrations gives fans compelling reasons to believe a Final Fantasy IX remake might finally be on the horizon.
