Marvel's Spider-Man 2: A PC Debut with a Catch
January 30, 2025: The PC Release Date
After captivating PlayStation 5 players in 2023, Marvel's Spider-Man 2's PC arrival is confirmed for January 30, 2025. Developed and optimized by Nixxes Software in collaboration with Insomniac Games, PlayStation, and Marvel Games, the PC version promises a top-tier experience. Nixxes, renowned for its PlayStation-to-PC ports (including the Horizon and Ghost of Tsushima series), guarantees a polished performance.
"Bringing the Spider-Man games to PC with Insomniac and Marvel Games has been fantastic," stated Nixxes' Community Manager, Julian Huijbregts. The PC port will feature ray tracing, ultrawide monitor support, and extensive graphical customization options. While DualSense controller features like adaptive triggers and haptic feedback won't be replicated, keyboard and mouse controls and ultrawide support are key selling points.
All post-launch content from the PS5 version will be included, encompassing twelve new suits (including Symbiote Suit styles), New Game+, "Ultimate Levels," enhanced Photo Mode, new time-of-day options, and post-game achievements. The Digital Deluxe Edition offers even more. However, no new story content is planned.
The PSN Requirement: A Point of Contention
A significant drawback is the requirement of a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, a growing trend among PlayStation PC ports. This excludes players in regions lacking PSN access, raising concerns about accessibility.
This policy, also seen in titles like God of War Ragnarök and Horizon Forbidden West, has drawn criticism, particularly for single-player games. The necessity of linking Steam and PSN accounts for offline experiences remains a point of debate.
Despite this, the PC release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 marks a significant step for Sony in bringing its exclusive franchises to a wider audience. Game8 awarded the PS5 version an 88, praising it as a superb sequel.
